MEET THE AUTHOR!
I was interested in history from an early age thanks to a large collection of Ladybird books that taught me everything I know about William the Conqueror and Alfred the Great. Like most young boys at that time, I grew up with 'Commando' and 'Warlord' comics and that is probably where my interest in military history  stemmed from. (Lord Peter Flint and Union Jack Jackson have got a lot to answer for!!) I have taught English and History in schools for many years now and do a bit of writing on the side when I have time. I developed my interest in battlefields about ten years ago when I first visited Ypres, the Somme and Verdun. Since then, I have toured extensively along the Western Front and have been working on a book which I might eventually finish one day! (any publishers out there?) I have also visited most of the main battlefield sites in Western Europe including Waterloo, Normandy, Bastogne and Arnhem. On my travels further afield, I have been lucky enough to go to Gallipoli, Wounded Knee and Little Big Horn in the USA. Places I would like to visit one day include Stalingrad and Gettysburg. I began this website primarily to share some of the experiences I have enjoyed and the many photographs I have accumulated on my travels. Not being a total anorak, I have other interests too including football, rugby, NFL, F1 motor racing, tennis and golf. I like reading (especially travel books such as Bill Bryson & Michael Palin), all kinds of films such as the Rocky movies and most Clint Eastwood films; I also like alternative rock! |
